چکیده

In this paper the wave breaking induced by modulational instability is investigated numerically. The wave train is composed by a fundamental component with two sideband disturbances and the analysis is performed for those conditions in which the instability leads the limiting steepness to be exceeded. Due to the different speeds characterizing individual waves and the peak of the envelope, the breaking is recurrent and several breaking events are found. The study is focused on the quantification of the initial energy fraction dissipated by the entire breaking process and on the changes operated by the breaking to the initial spectrum.

The Effect of Breaking Waves on a Coupled Model of Wind and Ocean Surface Waves. Part I: Mature Seas

This is the first of a two-part investigation of a coupled wind and wave model that includes the enhanced form drag of breaking waves. In Part I here the model is developed and applied to mature seas. Part II explores the solutions in a wide range of wind and wave conditions, including growing seas. Breaking and nonbreaking waves induce air-side fluxes of momentum and energy above the air–sea i...

Bore formation, evolution and disintegration into solitons in shallow inhomogeneous channels

The propagation of nonlinear surface waves in channels of smoothly variable in space cross section is studied theoretically and by means of numerical computations. The mathematical model describing wave evolution is based on the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation with additional terms due to spatial inhomogeneity and energy dissipation. Specifically we consider channels of variable depth an...

مقایسه روش‌های تحلیلی تجزیه امواج به منظور محاسبه ضریب انعکاس موج

Calculation of the reflected waves against obstacles is a prominent step in designing coastal structures. In addition, a complex process occurs during wave collision with beaches or breakwaters. These processes cause wave characteristics to be (energy dissipation, reflected wave, etc.). The new wave characteristics are dependent on reflected wave height straightly which are not measureable. In ...

Wave Propagation at the Boundary Surface of Elastic Layer Overlaying a Thermoelastic Without Energy Dissipation Half-space

The present investigation is to study the surface wave propagation at imperfect boundary between an isotropic thermoelastic without energy dissipation half-space and an isotropic elastic layer of finite thickness. The penetration depth of longitudinal, transverse, and thermal waves has been obtained. The secular equation for surface waves in compact form is derived after developing the mathemat...

Modulated periodic stokes waves in deep water

Modulated deep-water 1D Stokes waves are considered experimentally and theoretically. Wave trains are modulated in a controlled fashion and their evolution is recorded. Data from repeated laboratory experiments are reproducible near the wave maker, but diverge away from the wave maker. Numerical integration of a perturbed nonlinear Schrodinger equation and an associated linear spectral problem ...
